Saturday Farmstand
Every Saturday, rain or shine (we mean it) we host a farmstand at the LA Leadership Academy farm space. This is one of the ways we consistently expand food access in our neighborhood-by bringing local fresh produce into our community. In addition to supporting the neighborhood’s nutrition, the farmstand supports a network of more than 7 local farmers, ultimately investing $100,000 a year in the local farming economy.
At the farmstand you will find a wide range of seasonal fruits and vegetables. Cash, credit card, and EBT are all accepted. The Farmstand was created to center the experience of EBT users and folks that might typically face barriers to accessing quality produce. We currently offer a 75% discount on all produce when purchased with an EBT card. Included in this discount is our weekly farm box!
During the weekly Farmstand, the LA Leadership Academy farm space is open to the public! There are picnic benches on the terraced farm where you can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee, participate in a workshop, or let your little ones explore the farm. Our intention is to share our little slice of the hillside with the neighborhood!
Farm Box — The Basics
Weekly farm boxes typically contain 2 leafy greens, 2 seasonal fruits, 2-3 hearty vegetables and a dozen eggs, all sourced from our farm and other local growers depending on what is in season and tasting best.
To increase accessibility we offer our farm boxes on a sliding scale. This sliding scale requires your active participation. Please select the payment level that best aligns with your income and resources.
Supporter Box — $45
By purchasing this box that is slightly above market place value, you are offsetting costs for us to sustainably offer our sliding scale program and our broader programming on the farm. Thank you for believing and investing in our labor of love!
True Value Box — $45
Market price. If you can typically afford the produce at a farmers market or an upscale grocery store, this price point is for you.
Community Box — $35
Discounted by 25%. It is consistent with prices from larger grocery store chains for organic items. If you can typically afford to shop at those chains, this price point is for you. .
Solidarity Box — $25
Discounted by 50%. Intended for community members who would find it financially challenging to pay the full price based on their income and expenses. If you face food insecurity, or have a hard time accessing organic produce due to cost, this price point is for you.
EBT Box — $11.75
Discounted by 75% when paying with EBT. You must pre-order it with an EBT card to receive the discount.
