Job Title: Ave 33 Farmstand Coordinator
Hours: 20 - 40 hours/week, depending on availability / interests of the candidate
Compensation: $20-25 / hour commensurate with experience
About Ave 33 Farm
Ave 33 Farm is an urban farm in Lincoln Hieghts. Through our farm, we run a number of food access and education programs in collaboration with nonprofits and schools in North East Los Angeles. For example, we manage the school farm and salad bar program at LA Leadership Academy (LALA) and a paid urban agriculture internship program for high-school and college-age youth.
Ave 33 Farm hosts a free produce distribution every Friday and a EBT-authorized Community Farmstand every Saturday from 10am-1pm. Our goal is to provide low cost, affordable, fresh, local produce to residents of Lincoln Heights and surrounding neighborhoods. The Farmstand Coordinator would be responsible for managing and operating the farmstand and food distribution program every week and must be able to work Saturday mornings-afternoon, Thursdays, and Fridays.
We are looking for someone who is…
- Has an interest in local food systems and improving food access in North East LA.
- Friendly, amicable and makes a space feel welcome to community members.
- Knowledgeable about produce, agriculture, and Direct Marketing.
- Has experience with event coordination and / or working in food retail.
- Familiar with community outreach and has strong written and verbal communication
- Comfortable using technology like G Suite, Excel, Word, Calendly etc.
- Able to lift 40 pounds and engage in manual / physical labor
- Has access to a reliable vehicle and a valid license.
- Plus, but not required: basic graphic design skills.
- Plus, but not required: Bilingual in Spanish.
Responsibilities Include:
- Coordinating, ordering, sourcing, and picking up and/or receiving wholesale produce from Ave 33 farm and local farmers markets and/or produce donations from food recovery organizations.
- Setting up, working, and breaking down the farmstand on Saturdays and food distribution on Tuesdays
- Organizing and overseeing volunteers and interns for food distribution and farmstand.
- Managing, packing, and preparing, weekly CSA farmbox orders.
- Consistent communication with and coordination of customers, volunteers, and community members.
- Creating and posting content onto social media.
Depending on the availability and interest of the candidate, other responsibilities may include:
- Harvesting produce and general farm work (optional).
- Direct community outreach
- Support with student internship program
